​Invitation to GPs to Refer Suitable Individuals to Join SOLSTICE for Screening

SOLSTICE: A RESEARCH STUDY

SingapOre Lung cancer Screening Through Integrating CT with other biomarkErs (SOLSTICE) is a screening research study aimed at detecting lung cancer at an early stage, when it is more likely to be cured.

Led by a multidisciplinary team of medical oncologists, pulmonologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and radiologists from SingHealth and collaborating healthcare institutions, SOLSTICE examines if low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) scans and blood-based biomarker tests are effective for lung cancer screening in Singapore.

This study is carried out at the SingHealth Outram Campus and Sengkang General Hospital. Enrolment, which is targeting 1,000 participants, began in February 2023. To date, 300 participants have enrolled.

SOLSTICE is funded under the National Medical Research Council’s (NRMC) Open Fund – Large Collaborative Grant (OF-LCG). 

WHAT THE STUDY ENTAILS

Participation in the study involves:

1. LDCT scans

2. Blood collection

3. Questionnaires related to quality of life and lifestyle

– 30 pack-years or more (current smoker or former smoker who has quit for less than 15 years), or

– Never smoker, or has smoked less than 10 pack-years and has quit smoking for at least 15 years

– With the additional risk of a family history of lung cancer in first- or second-degree relatives (including parents, siblings, children, uncles/aunts, grandparents, nephews/nieces)
