Meet Specialist Pharmacist Lim Chuan Poh, who is leading a new team who are re-defining the role of pharmacists in the delivery of critical care to patients with life-threatening conditions in the Emergency Department.
Going beyond the traditional role of acting on doctors’ decisions to dispense medication, he and his team actively participate in patient care decision. They recommend medication selection, administration as well as monitoring of medication effects, to determine if adjustments or change is required in the fast-paced setting.

In 2025, Singapore General Hospital will move its Emergency Medicine Department (ED) to the new SGH Emergency /National Neuroscience Institute (SGH EM/NNI) Building. As we prepare for the move, LighterNotes profiles our hidden heroes who help the ED function smoothly. The new building will be connected with the main hospital complex to allow patients timely access to multi-disciplinary care. Besides the ED, the building will also house the Acute Medical Wards, Hospital Decontamination Station, NNI Executive Office, neuroscience outpatient clinics and other support services.
