Singapore, 26 November 2020 – The COVID-19 period has rapidly changed the way some healthcare services are delivered and consumed. Singapore General Hospital (SGH) patients, for instance, are increasingly turning to virtual consultation as their preferred mode for medical appointments. They are also opting to have their prescribed medication delivered to them.
The SGH Pharmacy Department in particular has seen an exponential rise in the number of medication deliveries made, from a modest monthly average of 2,500 before the pandemic to around 23,000 now.
As an added option, SGH has partnered Guardian Health and Beauty, Singapore for its patients to order and collect their medication at selected Guardian pharmacies island-wide with effect from October 2020. Alternatively, they can arrange to have it delivered to a preferred location, including a 24/7 secured parcel locker. No charge is levied for these services.
“We understand the hassle that patients and their loved ones have to go through just to get the prescription filled. Some even had to take leave from work to make a special trip to the Hospital, or wait again in queue after seeing the doctor,” said Ms Lim Ching Hui, Pharmacy Practice Manager, Department of Pharmacy, SGH.
“This is why we had embarked on our pharmacy service and care transformation journey some years ago. Our partnership with Guardian Singapore is a great addition to the options we already have for improved accessibility to medication and this will cut the time patients spend in the Hospital.”
Patients must submit an original valid prescription from SGH to a pharmacist at Guardian at least three working days before their medication supply runs out. The pharmacist will then place the order on their behalf and note down their preferred date, time, and location for delivery. They can also pick up their order from any of the 11 designated Guardian pharmacies of their choice on a selected date during the pharmacy’s opening hours.

An SMS will be sent to patients when their medication bill is ready for viewing and downloading via the SGH website or SingHealth’s Health Buddy app, and payment can be made online or at any 7-Eleven stores or Singapore Post branches.
