Local dentists use AI to improve patient services
The report which interviewed several local dental practitioners on the use of Artificial Intellignece (AI) in dentistry noted that NDCS had begun using AI five years ago to improve patient services and research & development. For instance, dentures were noted to be made not just with traditional moulds, but with the use of AI. Asst Prof Yu Na, Principal Investigator, NDCS, highlighted that the use of intra-oral scanners has helped to improve the fabrication process and patient comfort level.
The report noted that looking ahead, NDCS hoped to further push out the use of AI in the community in order to encourage more patients to be able to take care of their dental health at home before their next visit to the dentist. Asst Prof Yu Na also said that NDCS is currently conducting research into using AI to customise different treatment options for patients.
