Dr Tan Licia is a Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre under the Oculoplastic and Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department.
Dr Tan attended medical school at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at National University of Singapore as a Public Commission Service Merit scholar where she was awarded the Benjamin Chew Gold Medal in Medical Ethics, and subsequently completed her residency training in ophthalmology at Singapore National Eye Centre. She obtained her Masters in Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 2016, Ophthalmology Specialist accreditation in 2018, and was conferred Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmology in the same year.
She took on various leadership and administrative roles, representing Ophthalmology on the SingHealth Residents’ Committee, serving as the SingHealth Ophthalmology Chief Resident from 2016 to 2018, and was selected as one of the chief residents to represent SingHealth at the Singapore Chief Residency Programme from 2016-2017. She was then appointed as Chief Resident at Singapore National Eye Centre in 2019. During her residency training, she was awarded the SingHealth Outstanding Resident Award twice. She also received the SingHealth Award for Quality Improvement Project in 2016 for her work on improving patient workflow and waiting times.
During the course of her training, she was also involved in research and the publication of several research papers in respected peer review international medical journals such as Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Her work has also been presented at local and international conferences. Dr Tan is currently active in research, education, clinical service and patient care. She is presently working on various research projects. As a member of the Medical Education Committee, she is actively involved in furthering medical education and research. She is committed to teaching and education, and has been assigned as mentor, lecturer and tutor to medical students, an instructor in multiple microsurgical courses and tutorials for ophthalmology residents, and given various lectures and clinical instruction to allied health professionals. She also actively serves on various other committees that improve patient care, serving as Deputy Director to ECS services, and other committees such as the outpatient committee that manages clinical operations at the centre, and inter department collaboration with the Singapore General Hospital Accident and Emergency Department for care of ophthalmology patients.
