Profile

Dr. Tay is from the Trauma Service. His areas of interest involve the management of patients with fractures and orthopaedic injuries, particularly periprosthetic fractures. This drives his research interests, with publications and presentations covering orthogeriatric trauma and hip fractures.

Dr. Tay completed his medical degree at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2008 and underwent his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery in Singhealth from 2012 – 2019. He undertook an Australian Orthopaedic Association arthroplasty fellowship at Epworth Healthcare in Melbourne, participating in revision surgeries, particularly that for periprosthetic fractures. He has completed an AO Foundation Trauma fellowship in complex orthopaedic trauma surgery in Universitätsspital Basel, Switzerland. 

He holds appointments in all 3 local medical schools in Singapore, and is the Associate Programme Director of the Singhealth Orthopaedic PGY1 programme and Physician Faculty of the Singhealth Orthopaedic residency programme. He was awarded the Singhealth Outstanding Resident Award in 2018 and 2019, and the Singhealth Outstanding Faculty Award in 2019 and 2021.

His administrative appointments include previously being in the Medical Board, the Division Patient Safety and Quality Officer, and the SGH Campus Phase 2B Hospital Planning Committee. He has received accolades such as the Service With A Heart award and the Singapore Health Quality Service Award, as well as for his contributions against COVID-19.
