Every mouth is inhabited by its unique indigenous microbiota that comprises a complex ecological community of more than 700 types of heterogeneous microorganisms. They can be commensal, symbiotic or pathogenic bacteria, virus or fungi and bacteria are the main players. The oral microbiota is able to influence oral and systemic systems with detrimental or beneficial outcomes. It is the SOMI team's aspiration to mine the populous oral microbiome interactions with habitats in the mouth for the benefit of the health of the host.
