Dr John Tay is an Associate Consultant in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS), and is a specialist with the Periodontic Unit. His current practice includes the management of severe gum disease (Stage III-IV periodontitis), patients with metabolic or genetic disorders affecting the periodontium, multi-disciplinary oral rehabilitation, and in periodontal plastic surgery. He also performs comprehensive periodontal and implant dental surgeries for patients with inflammatory gum conditions, unrestorable dentition, anatomical deformities, and masticatory dysfunction.
Dr Tay completed his dental training at the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore in 2015. After three years of hospital and polyclinic rotations as a Dental Officer, he enrolled into post-graduate residency, obtaining his Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Periodontology from the National University of Singapore in 2021. During his training he served as Chairperson of the 1st and 2nd Residents’ Committee of the Residency Programme. He was also conferred the IADR Medal for achieving a distinction in the final MDS Examinations. Dr Tay completed his 6-year specialist training in Periodontology at National Dental Centre Singapore in 2024, and is a Singapore board certified periodontist.
Dr Tay firmly believes in the need to rely on sound scientific evidence to deliver the best care for his patients. He is actively involved in research, and his interests are in the interrelationships between periodontitis and the overall health of the patient, dental prognostication models, and in health service delivery. He has published scientific papers in internationally peer-reviewed journals, and has also been invited to speak at local and regional scientific meetings.
