Overview

Did you know that 6-7% of our local population has dentofacial deformities and require othognathic surgery? Ever wondered when is the right age to refer patients with jaw discrepancies (e.g. Skeletal II and Skeletal III) and what sort of treatment plan is indicated for these patients? Can Orthognathic surgery be prevented?

This session aims to address these questions and more so that together, we can provide the best treatment outcome for our patients.

Speaker Profile

​Dr Elaine Tan is a Consultant practicing in the National Dental Centre of Singapore (NDCS). She graduated from the Orthodontic residency programme from the National University of Singapore (NUS), in conjunction with the Diploma of Membership in Orthodontics (Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh) in 2011 and was awarded best international candidate for the MOrth exams. She subsequently obtained the SingHealth HMDP fellowship award and went to Taipai Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in 2015 to do a fellowship in Cleft and Craniofacial Orthodontics. Dr Tan is a clinical lecturer with NUS and an adjunct lecturer with Duke-NUS.

Dr William Lim is currently serving as a Consultant in the National Dental Centre Singapore. He completed his basic degree in Dental Surgery in 2008 with an 'Outstanding Undergraduate Research Prize', and subsequently went on to pursue his Masters in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 2010. He became a Fellow of the Academic Medicine Institute in 2016 and is currently Head of the Oral and Craniofacial Implant Programme in NDCS, which involves clinical services and implant certification of residents. He also has an interest in using 3D imaging to diagnose and conduct surgical planning for his patients.
