TS-1® is a combination oral chemotherapy used to treat certain types of advanced cancer e.g. gastric, pancreatic, head and neck.

What side effects can Tegafur/Gimeracil/Oteracil (TS-1®) cause?

Nausea and vomiting
Diarrhea
Tiredness and lack of energy
Decrease white and red blood cells, platelets
To minimize infection risk, ensure personal hygiene and take adequate precautions e.g. avoiding crowded areas.

Inform your doctor if any of the following occurs:

Fever of 38°C or higher, sores in the mouth and throat
Sudden onset of cough or shortness of breath
Chest pain or irregular heartbeat
Unusual bleeding, bruising or black stools
Severe diarrhea uncontrolled by anti-diarrheal medication e.g. more than 4 times/day
Yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark tea-coloured urine and severe abdominal pain
Skin rash or itch

Before taking Tegafur/Gimeracil/Oteracil (TS-1®) , what precautions must I follow?

Use effective birth control during treatment and for 6 months after stopping TS-1®. Inform your doctor if you or your partner suspect or plan for pregnancy.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you:

Are taking other medication or supplements e.g. warfarin, phenytoin.
Have any other medical conditions e.g. heart problems.

How should Tegafur/Gimeracil/Oteracil (TS-1®) be used?

It is a capsule taken by mouth, twice daily after breakfast and dinner.
The dose given is based on your body weight and height. Take the exact number of capsules and follow the dosing schedule instructed by your doctor.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of TS-1®, take it as soon as you remember. However if it is too near to your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your usual dosing time. Do not double the dose.
